Women of the Apocalypse Won!

Posted by Absolute XPress on May 30, 2010 with Comments Comments

WOTA-WinnersIf you’ve been following along, you’ll know that back in March “Women of the Apocalypse” was nominated in two Categories for the Canadian Aurora Awards.

The entire anthology, written by Eileen Bell, Billie Milholland, Roxanne Felix and Ryan McFadden, was nominated under the BEST WORK IN ENGLISH (OTHER) category, and the novella “Pawns Dreaming of Roses” written by Eileen Bell was nominated under the BEST SHORT-FORM WORK IN ENGLISH category.

So it is with great pleasure that we pass along the good news:

“Women of the Apocalypse” won in BOTH categories.

Eileen_AuroraLast Sunday, at Key-Con in Winnipeg, Manitoba,  three of the Apocalyptic Four accepted the award along with AXP’s owner Brian Hades (in the picture above). Eileen Bell also accepted one for her novella (the picture to the right).

This kind of “double win” was unheard of until Robert J. Sawyer did it 1997 and then again in 2000. Since both Eileen and Ryan were once students of Robert it seems his luck might have rubbed off on them (of course, we should mention that Robert J. Sawyer won an Aurora as well this year for Best Novel in English for “Wake”). A full list of this year’s winners and nominees can be found on the Aurora Awards Website.

“Women of the Apocalypse” is a novella collection about four women who are accidentally chosen to take up the mantles of champions and save the world from the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse.

Four writers, four horsemen, four Women of the Apocalypse. The world will never be the same again.

If you want to meet some of these authors in person, Billie, Ryan and Eileen will be at Ad Astra (Toronto, April 9-11) and at Key Con (Winnipeg, May 21-23.)

You can check out more photo’s, and stay up to date on their whereabouts, on their facebook fan page “Apocalyptic Four” and their website http://womenoftheapocalypse.com.

More about the book:

Four women. Four shooters. Four destinies to save the world…

The Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse are coming. And four Archangels must find the perfect champions to save the world: fighters, warriors, soldiers, and brave men, all ready to fight for humanity against end times. All they have to do is drink a shooter — a caustic mix of alcohol and divinity that will imbue them with the conviction to battle the Four.

Shiny sticker :)

The only problem is these warriors don’t drink the shooters.

Call it fate, chance, or what you will, but four women drink the divine concoction. Alexandra Carlton, Julia Wolfe, Emily Keller and Dinah Medrano must all take up the mantles of champions … whether they want to or not.

Four writers, four horsemen, four Women of the Apocalypse. The world will never be the same again.

Our latest release from the Flash Fiction Challenge, Creatures of the Night, has gotten two new reviews on Amazon.com. Check them out below or on the Amazon website:

Congrats authors.

I am impressed with each author listed here. Not only did they write an entertaining story, they managed to complete it in such a short order. I would think that flash fiction would be one of the more difficult ways to write. I can’t wait to read more.

While all were good I will point out that I especially enjoyed Foxhunt, Eternal Moonless Night, and Weapons of Mass Destruction.

A Great Collection of Horror

November 24, 2009
By DelGal’s Book Reviews (Delaware, USA)

This is a mixed collection of well written horror stories, some with hints of gore, some a smattering of science fiction, and still others contain bits of humor. What’s truly fun about this collection is that not all of the authors have been published before, so it’s giving new writers a chance showcase their works in an otherwise “hard to break in”, horror market. Who knows, the next Stephen King may be lurking amongst these creepy pages.

Creatures of the Night: Chart Rush

Posted by Absolute XPress on November 11, 2009 with Comments Comments

On November 14 the authors of the anthology “Creatures of the Night” will be participating in an Amazon Chart Rush.

Our goal for the Chart Rush is to get people to buy the book during a particular time, which will cause our ranking to get higher and get our little book noticed.

And it’s not just purchases that will increase our ranking. Views of the page and people adding it to their wish list will also bump our ranking (for reference the amazon page is here).

On the day of the event, we will also be doing a live internet radio show with nine of the authors from the anthology. You’ll get to know more about these fabulous writers and there will be a live question and answer period for fans and readers to participate in.

Four Stories – So different – so Good
By Lin
This book has a very different premise. Archangels, all men, leave a guy (Tobias) on earth to warn them if the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse plan to destroy humanity. That guy is supposed to get four male champions to fight the horsemen. When four women drink the Four Horsemen shooters (and there’s a recipe) and get empowered instead of the men, the angels aren’t happy. Then the fun begins. Four very different stories, all with surprises. I was going to read one story each night. I read all four stories last night. This whole book is a very good read, every story. Angels aren’t always what you think they are and neither are the horsemen. And I warn you, you might get your eyes opened about where famine will strike.

Great news for our four novella authors.

Also, our other new title ‘Creatures of the Night’ has a promotional video created by one of the authors in the anthology. Check it out.

This is certainly a great way to spread the word and it’s given us here at AXP a few promotional ideas for our future titles.
