Schedule Changes

Posted by Absolute XPress on February 9, 2010 with Comments Comments

Good Morning,calendar

When AXP re-focused its publishing platform last fall, we worried that we might not attract as many submissions as we would like. So, since our Flash Fiction Challenge was doing well, we came up with a plan to publish four Challenges’ per year.

In retrospect, it seems we only needed to let people know we were here and the submissions started flooding in; quality novels and novellas from both new and established writers. We are thrilled to know that you want us to produce your books.

Because of this outpouring of submissions, we’ve figured out a way to produce eight new books this year. Of course with expansion some things have to change.

In the end, we have decided to reduce the Flash Fiction Challenge from four times a year to three. It’s a decision we are making it for all the right reasons and we are happy to do it.

The new schedule isn’t too different from our original one, all we really did was add an extra month to the publication time lines, but it makes a world of difference to our overall schedule and gives us more time to produce a higher quality anthology.

New Flash Fiction Challenge Schedule

Session Open Close Publish
One December 1 January 15 March 31
Two April 1 May 15 July 31
Three August 1 September 15 November 30

The authors and stories that have been selected for publication in “Thieves and Scoundrels: Flash Fiction Challenge #3″ will be announced later this week. The anthology itself will be published on March 31 as per our new schedule.

With five cool novels and three Flash Fiction Challenges scheduled this year we can only see good things for 2010.

Thank you for your support as readers, writers and fans.

Flash Fiction Challenge #3

Posted by Absolute XPress on December 1, 2009 with Comments Comments

With two anthologies already published under the Flash Fiction Challenge banner, Absolute Xpress is conducting its 3rd challenge with the theme, and title, of “Thieves and Scoundrels”.

The rules are simple: The story must fit within the theme (see below); the story must be under 1000 words; and it must be submitted by midnight PST on January 15th 2010.

All the entries will be reviewed blind by a panel of judges and the very best will be selected for publication in the next Flash Fiction Challenge anthology due out in February or March of 2010.

For more information on how to submit your story to the flash fiction challenge, check out the contest page: http://absolute-x-press.com/flash-fiction-challenge or click on “Flash Fiction Challenge” at the top of the website.

Theme for Challenge #3: Thieves and Scoundrels

Would your characters try to swindle a dragon out of his treasure? Perhaps they’d try to steal the fastest spaceship in the galaxy? Or are they after something a little more sinister that’s in need of taking? Where ever and when ever they take place, the stories of these Thieves and Scoundrels will take hold of your imagination and ransom it back to you.

NOTE: all stories submitted to the Flash Fiction Challenge must fit within the genres of Science Fiction, Fantasy or Horror.

All of us here at AXP look forward to your entries.

In June 2009, writers everywhere were issued a challenge – to write an epic story in under 1000 words.

They were challenged to write about what hides in the darkness, what’s creeping behind the corner or even under the bed. Creatures of the Night holds 19 stories from 14 established and break out authors from all over the USA, UK and Canada. I have the great pleasure to introduce them to you today.

The winners of the second Flash Fiction Challenge, Creatures of the Night, are (in alphabetical order):

Marie Andreas – Paranoia
Beth Caudill – Bridge Guardian
M.L.D. Curelas – Foxhunt
Stef Donev – Leprechauns on Ice
Tina Hunter – Demon Disease and Mistake Bite
Cynthia Latzko – Nightly Appetizers
Tammy Lynde – The Prisoner
Sarah Melton – The Full Treatment and Buttons Almighty
Paul Monks – Quickening and Signal to Noise
Jay Raven – Weapons of Mass Destruction and Blood Money
J.A. Saare – Redemption
R. L. Stuemke – Hot Spell
Matthew Stroescu – When I’m Sixty Four and Eternal Moonless Night
Heather Wildman – Becoming Human

Please join me in congratulating them all. More information about these fabulous authors and their intriguing tales can be found on the AXP book page for Creatures of the Night.

The authors also want the world to know that there is more than just shadows lurking in the night, and to help them do this we are holding a very special online book launch on October 31st. Check back for more information on this special event.

And don’t forget, the Flash Fiction Challenge is now a quarterly event. The next challenge opens on December 1st with an entertaining new theme. Be sure to check it out.
